Really?

Imagine a world where newbuildings with better tech and better fuels will be ordered by shipping companies with lofty intentions backed by well-meaning finance.

So, these companies will have higher ESG rankings because their ships are modern, efficient and environmentally friendly plus they have some women directors on the board.

To maintain highest rankings, these companies will throw out more and more older ships way sooner than their scrapping age; to do “good”, look “good” and feel “good”.

Where do the orphaned oldies go ? - Do we care? 
Do we want to make sure that these discarded ships do not pollute the environment?
Do we want to make sure many men AND women don't suffer under terrible conditions as workers in the scrapyards?

Think EEC! 
And ask yourself WHY?
Your "good" acts may be the very reason why ships are not “de-Lego-ed” into Green Steel.

First of all, I fully subscribe to the EEC purpose WHY, “because we want to change the clearly “unhappy” shipbreaking industry”

Additionally, for me personally, what attracts me in this new venture is a combination of things;

Working with a team of people who I admire and respect and with whom I worked with in the past. 

The great combination of things I did in the past and the experience I gained will be of great value to solve the major technical challenges that are ahead.

The clear business opportunity presents itself at this moment, because ESG ratings drive owners to venture into younger fleets and finance for older ships is only available in obscure corners of the shipping finance landscape. We believe we have the ability to solve that.

Reduction of GHG emissions is a top priority for the shipping industry, with an ongoing pursuit of the best technology and fuels to gradually achieve zero-carbon performance. The ESG rating is becoming an increasingly important criterion, and ordering new ships is a solution frequently selected by industry frontrunners in order to stay on the right side of the initiative.

Existing ships are, inherently, influenced by this and they require bespoke attention to achieve optimal life cycle performance, ranging from the matured asset management to the finalisation of their economic existence through their completed recycling and reuse of recycled materials. 

Recycling itself is, self-evidently, the problematic aspect of the shipping industry, as the majority of the World's fleet is still recycled by substandard practices, which are detrimental to the environment and societies.  

The Dedicated entity that will provide an integrated solution for the ethical and best-in-class life cycle ESG performance of Senior Ships, would make a highly positive and relevant impact on the industry.

Therefore we are highly motivated to further develop our game-changing business model together with our likeminded colleagues.

In 2002 I had developed, and assisted in implementing the management system for ISO9001 certification for a ship breaking company in Alang, in the Indian state of Gujarat. This was one of the most challenging assignments that I ever undertook and this was my first real introduction to the ship breaking industry. 

After 42 years in the shipping industry, in various positions at different companies, I would like to make a contribution to the ship recycling industry by offering ships a green and socially responsible elegant alternative. 

It is sad to see how maritime assets are consigned to an undignified exit on a beach and it is time to change the unhappy ship recycling scene. 

It is a pleasure representing the Elegant Exit Company in the Middle East and managing the operations from our Abu Dhabi office. Working together with a global team of dedicated professionals on this game changing project is a satisfying experience!

Born in a family of maritime Captains and Chief Engineers, it was obvious I would fall in love with ships. During her time at sea, a vessel operates elegantly through hard and tough weather conditions. Such a beautiful vessel deserves a really Elegant Exit while her final moments don't impact the environment or cause any harm to the people involved in that process of dismantling.
Born in the Indian Subcontinent, I am aware of the bad name it has for Ship Dismantling. Hence to change this perception globally, I endorse the Idea of EEC where we dismantle the vessel under the strictest Environmental and Safety regulations.

Acceleration towards sustainability and the drive to recycle every conceivable product is driving a seismic change around the world and specially the maritime world. 

Companies are realizing that in the medium to long term the simple owning of assets (ships) will not remain as profitable as utilization of those assets to generate cashflows. The shifting of focus towards sustainability and the drive to recycle the assets by re-using them is enhancing the need to recycle ships in a clean and green manner. 

EEC fills this massive void whereby existing asset owners can focus on generating cash flows while EEC takes over the older ships, allows others to generate cashflows, green recycles the ships and reuse the residual assets in its ideal circular economy - Green ships, Green operation, Green recycling leads to Green steel production – and eventually new building Green ships.

With sustainability becoming a priority for consumers, governments and businesses, the Maritime Industry will not stay behind. Part of the transition to a more sustainable industry will happen through shipowners renewing their current fleet, in order to meet the highest sustainability standards. But what will happen with the older vessels? The transition to a more sustainable Maritime Industry cannot happen without a plan for the older vessels of the fleet. A plan that is sustainable in every respect.

At EEC we are working hard to provide that plan. We want to change the ship breaking industry, by up-cycling the older vessels of the fleet into 'new green steel', to make room for cleaner, more efficient vessels. The recycling will be done respecting the most stringent rules and regulations to spare the environment, with great care for the social wellbeing and short and long term health effects on our workers and the workers of our partners.

I'm excited to be part of this team, trying to change the ship breaking industry and have a positive impact on the sustainability of the Maritime Industry.

Ambar Mukerji

Elegant exit to maritime assets is a novel concept. Environmental concerns world wide are real and can no longer be ignored. 

I intend to bring my four decades of experience in corporate finance and Business Management , including 20 years as CEO/COO of transnational companies to work with EEC to synergize the genuine need of ship owners for an elegant exit of their maritime assets and the strategic need of steel mills for high quality ferrous scrap in their march towards zero carbon emission.

The key areas where I will be contributing, relates to strategic planning, cost centre and profit centre management facilitating resources optimization and monitor accounting and auditing operations, cash flow management, enterprise risk assessment and identifying key ‘internal controls ‘ and implementation of related best practices.

Hanke Amels

As grand daughter of a ship building entrepreneur - yes, they owe their name to us - and daughter of a maritime entrepreneur I've been growing up in the shipping business.

After studying and starting my working life I've went different ways. Allways following the work that creates added value for the world, makes my heart beat faster ánd is fun.

Last five years I've spent my time in the Dutch funeral business as a celebrant and entrepreneur in coaching funeral directors. When I found out my heart didn't beat that fast for this work anymore. It seemed the perfect timing to step in the shipping (family) business.

Now I work with my dad, my brother and the rest of the EEC team to change the shipping business by recycling end of life ships in an elegant way.

In my communication role I want to add value for the company in growing our network, telling the world what we are doing (social media and PR) and also keeping our bunch of remote workers together by improving (internal) processes.
